Charting the merging of basketball and fashion since the onset of the sport, Fly: The Big Book of Basketball Fashion elegantly weaves together a photo-packed lookbook and perceptive cultural commentary to curate an exclusive exploration of the iconic style of NBA players.

Each chapter delves into the distinctive trends of a given era, and how cultural forces have shaped its style: Starting with the NBA's founding in 1949, during the pre-Civil Rights Movement when the league was almost exclusively white, and with players typically wearing suits and slim ties. To the years following the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which brought with it funk and R&B and a more vibrant look to the court (like Walt “Clyde” Frazier in full fur, and Wilt Chamberlain in big hats). The Michael Jordan era of the '80s and '90s with its oversized suits. Iverson and Hip-Hop in the late '90s and early 2000s, and now to the modern day, where social media and high fashion have given us the tunnel walk (think LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Russell Westbrook), and athletes are celebrated not only for their skills on the court, but also as style icons and activists, pioneers of fashion.
