Conceptual photographer Anne Collier (born 1970) links emotional complexity and vulnerability to the world of photography. Based in New York, her art uses neutral objects to explore themes concerning the act and industry of photography, while simultaneously mocking clichés and uncovering overlooked truths. As Brian Dillon wrote in Frieze magazine, Collier "uncouples the machinery of appropriation so that her found images seem weightless, holding their obvious meaning in abeyance."

This volume was part of the MCA Monograph series and showcased Collier's work for her first major US exhibition. Inside, the foreward is by Madeleine Grynsztejn, the Pritzker Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. Michael Darling (James W. Alsdorf Chief Curator at the MCA) reviews the works within the context of Collier's career; while Chrissie Iles (Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art) examines the artist's place in photographic and cinematic history. Novelist Kate Zambreno also considered the fragments of lost objects and the act of collecting.
