Obey: The Art of Shepard Fairey

A thematic overview of work from the protagonist of street-inspired, politically savvy graphic art.

Shepard Fairey, the visionary behind Obey, revolutionized political art with the iconic HOPE poster from Barack Obama's 2008 campaign. His bold, minimalist aesthetic, rooted in hip-hop and punk rebellion, challenges social conventions through powerful imagery. This comprehensive monograph traces Fairey's evolution across five thematic sections: propaganda, peace and justice, environment, music, and recent works (2021–2024). Each section showcases how Obey harnesses visual language to address human rights, power dynamics, environmental stewardship, and cultural universality. A definitive survey of contemporary activist art and design.
