Rilla Alexander for Areaware
Rilla Alexander is a designer and illustrator whose work has appeared on everything from toys and tea cups to busses and buildings. She explores creativity and ideas through graphic forms and bold colors and inspires both children and adults through books, workshops and exhibitions. Her characters dance across Museo del Prado’s ceramics and stationery, populate Swiss credit cards and sleep on the wall of a Copenhagen hotel (where she replaced the bed with a tent). Rilla’s picture books include The Best Book in the World, Her Idea and A Bear Sat On My Porch Today. Her illustrations for Swarm of Bees, a book she made with Lemony Snicket, were done using a combination of rubber stamps, ink and digital collage. Originally from Australia, she has lived in London, Berlin, and Portland, and currently calls Los Angeles home.
Areaware creates objects and gifts for home, work, and play in collaboration with independent designers. They are dedicated to creating functional and uplifting objects, designed with integrity. Above all else, designers are at the heart of what they do.
