THE ARTIST: KEITH HARING
Keith Haring (1958-90) was one of the most renowned artists of the 1980s. His subway drawings, inspired by graffiti art, allowed him to reach a large audience. By 1980, his work was displayed in galleries and museums worldwide. Haring contributed to literacy campaigns and anti-AIDS initiatives. He created murals, sculptures and paintings to benefit many organizations. Before his death in 1990, Haring established a foundation to sustain his legacy of helping others. Through collaborating with museums, galleries, publishers and art education programmers, his work and its message live on.
