Keith Haring was born in 1958 in Pennsylvania, eventually arriving in New York City from Pittsburgh in 1978. Haring would become close friends with renowned artists such as Kenny Scharf and Jean-Michel Basquiat, and eventually gained worldwide recognition in the 1980s through various solo and group exhibitions. In 1988, Haring was diagnosed with HIV, and he soon became an advocate for those affected by AIDS. Sadly, Haring passed away two years later due to an AIDS-related illness.

Keith Haring was raised in Kutztown, PA. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts, he died from AIDS-related complications at the age of 31.

Joanne Heyler is the director and Sarah Loyer is a curator at The Broad in Los Angeles.

Kimberly Drew aka @MuseumMammy is the associate director of Pace Gallery, author of This Is What I Know About Art and coauthor of Black Futures.

Kermit Oswald was president of the Keith Haring Foundation until 2010.

Kenny Scharf is an American artist known for his participation in the New York downtown art scene in the 1980s.
